Duplicate Finder - File Clean App Reviews

really? Adds even after I paid?

It asks me for a review after using each time. No time to “never ask me again.”

Understanding “duplicates"

I purchased this app for two reasons; to locate and remove unnecessary duplicate files in my computer and to counter a what appears to be an unfounded negative review. A poster gives it one star because it did not locate any of “hundreds of duplicates” in art files that he keeps many copies of made at various stages of completing paintings. A file with the same name having additional work done to any number of sequential copies is not a duplicate. Each is a unique picture of the painting at progressive stages, something I suppose the app detects by either size or comparison of contents.

App Crashes Continually On External HDD

I purchased this app to help dedupe my external drive which has become cluttered over time but I have attempted to scan the drive multiple times and each time the app crashes. Since I have already purchased the app I will try again after they have corrected the crash that I have reported. The app did work when I scanned my local drive but as an app/web developer I wish it provided more detail on the duplicates found. Most of my apps/websites share the same files as part of the framework and the grid that lists the duplicates makes it difficult to discern the locations for multiple duplicate files. A simple grid view of the results would make the finding much more useful.

Very helpful—know its limitations

In reading some of the reviews below, particularly regarding “art files,” it gives me even more confidence in this app. Clearly if small changes have been made to each art file, they are not, in fact, duplicates. It could be a dangerous program if it only counted a file as a dupiclate by using its name and file type. As a photographer, I often save very similar, yet slightly different files, for different uses. I find this is a great program and helps me eliminate truly identical files that have been downloaded twice, for example, or were accidentally created and saved. I love it. It’s helped me save a great deal of space by finding duplicate audiobooks, updates, etc.

TIME SAVER

Perfect for folks like me who due to full schedule, age, limited system knowledge and sometimes stress would not be a good choice to perform these tasks. Would be great if the app presented the duplicate files side by side as noted by another reviewer. Recommend this to all folks like me. Mike

Fu#ked up my iTunes library within minutes!!!

This horrible app deletted more than half my audio books (of which there were no duplicates) then went on to destroy 2o+ gigs of music. I had to pull my purchases (1000’s of $) back out of the trash and spend hours trying to relocate my other files. Now I have more dupilacates than I did before since it removed over 6000 files and it was too much for me to go thru and independently analyze. I will have to use time capsule and my external hard drive to properly fix the damage this stupid app did!!! UGH!!!! DON’T USE THIS APP!!!

Great app

One of those apps I didn’t realize I had a need for until I used it. Fast and gets the job done. I’d recommend it

Easy

Managing files could not be easier. A much needed app.

Amazing

Well, that was easy!

very easy and accurate

I have been using for some time and has helped me keep my Mac clean. Recommend!

Duplicate Finer

This app is a great help to clean up clutter on my iMac.

Photos

Won’t work on photos. Got lots of dups.

wonderful time saver!

i ended up with three or fours multiples of 25,000 photos when i brought all my stuff down from google drive, icloud and flickr. i wasn’t about to start sorting everything out myself. my biggest gripe is that you can’t select “keep oldest” or “keep original”. when i do auto select, it seems to go for deleting the oldest, which in my case seems to be the originals. i have had to go through individually clicking away the newer images, the duplications, but it’s still saving me time overall. thank you for your work!

Duplicate finder

Great tool for mac products, keeps disk clean and my computer working at high speeds. Finds duplicate files shows them side by side with the option to auto select the file that needs to be removed. Creates excellent performance and efficiency.Keeps my computer space free of unwanted files.

Excellent App

Very user freindly and highly improved my computer speed

Paired with Dr. Cleaner, makes for a nice inexpensive cleaner

This isnt some hardcore cleaning app that will let you set all sorts of parameters to define what constitutes a "duplicate". It just searches your HD for bit-perfect dupes (maybe uses a hash of the file, Im not sure). Then you can review and delete the dupes, should you choose. Its pretty safe if you pay attention, which you should ALWAYS do....even the most expensive apps cant do your thinking for you. Maybe you have songs in your iTunes database as well as in a separate external library youve organized meticulously. Obviously youre going to want to keep both. But for lots of files, you can safely zap them. Just be organized in the first place and deliberate when you use tools of mass deletion and all will go well. I especially like that this (50% off right now, cha-ching) integrates seamlessly with the free Dr. Cleaner, also from Trend Micro, and provides an easy taskbar icon way to both free up memory, delete junk files, and (with this), free up hard drive space by identifying and cleaning up dupes. With all the cloud drives and mobile devices that sync with our Macs these days, Id be really suprised if you DIDNT have a lot of dupes, especially when it comes to photos! Anyway, stop listening to me and just buy the thing. Its handy and you wont regret it, nor will it do anything annoying to get in your way. Just remember, it isnt a PRO tool so dont expect it to have the robust features of one.

Easy Peesy

I’m no whiz when it comes to pretty much anything on my computer, so this was quick and easy. I backed up all devices prior to cleaning and removing the duplicate files (which, somehow over the years I managed to duplicate several songs on iTunes, in addition to photos, etc). It worked great. My MacBook Pro works so much better, as well as my iMac. THANK YOU for making this idiot-proof. :))))

Happily Amazed!

I took on the job of taking all archived photos on various forms of media from members of our family (my wife and I, kids and grandkids), copying them to my iMac, sorting out the duplicates and then making a copy of the combined archive for everybody. Since I still had hard copies of everything I decided to be reckless, let it search for, auto select and permanently delete all the duplicates. It took almost 1 1/2 hrs to do the job, but the result was more than satisfying. It went through a total of 430GB of mostly high resolution photo files, weeded out almost 10,000 duplicates, leaving me with 12,000 photos to sort into various folders, copy and distribute to everybody. I can’t even fathom the amount of time I saved over going through all those files manually and getting rid of the duplicates. We have not noticed any photos that went missing. Good job.

Easy, fast and simple…but also effective

After using Dr. Cleaner because I needed something to identify where I could free up space on my hard drive, since it has reached maximum capacity and in the past I have have downloaded countless programs that either took forever or were too complicated. Needless to say after using Dr. Cleaner (and being pleasantly surprised), I looked into Duplicate Finder and other similar programs, and after doing some research, I chose Duplicate Finder and I was very pleased with the results. A good Cyber Monday purchase indeed!

all those jpegs

had a large number of work-related jpegs that were duplicated through the mysteries of computing. Duplicate Finder made them gne ezpz. Good stuff.
